The 2010 Summer Intensive culminated into the show Step Into Culture. The show was a mix of Marenje Marimba’s steadfast work, and a series of afternoon teaching sessions with the local chapter of the Boys and Girls Club. The show was a huge success, drawing people from all walks of life into the garden sanctuary known as Downtown Greens: www.downtowngreens.org

This is a video of the culmination of just one aspect of the 2010 Summer Intensive with the Boys and Girls club of the Greater Fredericksburg area. I worked with the children in this clip to build a trash can band, focusing on the rhythms of Brazil. Ms. Ida Leak, a wonderful teacher from Richmond, taught some aspects of African dance to compliment the music.

Just after the thunderstorm rolled overhead, our ensemble was soaked from head to toe. We all came into the studio, and rocked the house one more time!! This clip is an action shot, capturing the power of the music, and its infectious rhythms!! The kids came up with a simple vocal line to follow the melody. Everyone join in!!
